Amen mate.
With the millions upon millions of people with iPhones, i'm not naive enough to even think that Apple would care about how many times I go to McDonalds or go to Work, or where I Work.. It's not like Apple don't tell you when Location Services are being used, there is a big shiny arrow on the top of the phone that gives it away.
IMO this is being blown WAY out of proportion.
turning off location services does not stop the tracking.
download this program to view the file and test it for yourselves.

Disabling location services does not stop the phone recording this data!
This is the point turning location services off the phone still records this data, and people say Apple are not using it!!
Hey mate.
To disable location services, which should stop any tracking you need to go to:
Settings > General > Location Services > Then just turn it off.
However, this will disable your ability to use the Find My iPhone function of your phone if you were to ever lose it.
Hope this helps mate,
Regards,
Zet.

There is no spyware on your iphone; who ever makes this claim is an idiot.
It is a small database of celltowers your phone has connected to.
If you encrypt your iphone back up no one can access this data.
It is not "sent" anywhere.
Oh, and this has been on the iphone since iOS 4 was released, this is not new.
i care.
i do not want a record of all my movements logged on my phone or PC whether Apple use it or not, whether they sell it on to marketers or not or whether no one ever sees it or not.
these logs would be a hacker's, marketer's wet dream were they to gain access.
i personally see the need for a option or App to manually delete such logs.
people shouldn't make themselves crazy over this, because your information is stored on the internet, your Emails, text messages, and cell towers. You want privacy... sell your devices. Today people have all kind of information on their computers/Internet... banking, resumes, taxes, credit cards, social networks, com'on use common sense, be practical. You don't want to give up your location, then when an App ask to use your location say NO, and turn off Location Services in Settings.
@fredfromkillyleagh There's no way to disable this if you want to use iOs 4 and not break the EULA/TOS.
@Kiwiphone4 Your "small list" is anything but small. Data in there gets never deleted, so people can track your movements since when you started using your phone which means anybody having access to your device or backup has access to any place you went since you bought it.
@DavidK If you did what I think you did, I wouldn't annouce it here or you might loose your warranty
@Aepple Bad advice, what you wrote there, doesn't have any effect. Apple won't allow you to disable that function. As for your reasoning I don't agree. Two wrongs don't make a right and comparing apples with pears is not getting you anywhere anyway.
This has been on the iPhone since day one beginning with the original iPhone nearly 4 years ago.
This sort of stuff that the media is way late on and so far behind on brings out mental midgets/conspiracy theorists in droves while their whereabouts are captured on cameras and in other ways many times every day that is collected.
Many Thanks for the info Zetai.
Give him a star if you could please.
Well this tracking comes with iOS 4 so if you want to "disable" it just downgrade to iOS 3
I have sorted it now, but not by downgrading!! 😉
You can encrypt your iPhone backups
