Lost and Stolen Ipad 2 - I have the serial # and receipt. Can I do anything?

I was on a flight from Chicago to Knoxville. It was an morning flight and I was very tired. I had been stuck overnight in Chicago because of a mechanical issue of the plane in our gate at O'Hare.

Short story here is that I was very stressed and left my new iPad 2 in the seat pocket on the plane. I didn't realize it till I was 2 hours away from the airport. So I called the United hotline and reported it on their automated Lost Lugage system. I also checke with the United Ticket agent at the Knoxville airport. They checked their safe but it wasn't turned into them.

So my only thought is either a crooked United employee cleaning the plane took it. Or the next person on the plane took it. "Seat 6c". I've tried calling lost lugage seeral times over the last few weeks but nobody has called back.

So yesterday when looking in my preferences in iTunes I found my serial number for the iPad2. And I have the receipt from BestBuy when I purchased it.

Is there ANYTHING that can be done. Can I have apple somehow block the iPad. Can I have AT&T block the 3G on the iPad2 as well since it's a 32gb 3G model.

Is there anyway that apple or AT&T can tell where it is since the news artilce came out yesterday that says all apple 3G devices are tracked.

I had the MobelMe apple tracking software installed on it. But the person turned off the Location Services. I did send a message. And I sent the lock code.

I get an email that both had been received. I sent a wipe as well but it's been in pending mode ever since.

I need help from Apple and AT&T on this. I've been a loyal customer for a very long time. I've got Macbooks, MacBook Pros, iMacs, iPods, iTouches and more in my house. There has to be something that can be done for all I've done at home and through my jobs.

iPad 2, iOS 4.3.1, 32gb 3G GPS

All you can do is report the theft to the appropriate law enforcement authority. I would assume that would be in your home town. Since you reported it to the airlines they will contact you if the device is found. But neither Apple nor ATT can really do much. Report it to ATT in case they can access the device remotely if it comes online.

Many similar posts have been submitted to this forum. The general response is a) Apple does not provide you with help, even if given a serial number, b) file a police report, and c) check with your insurance; you might be covered.

For others, if you are using Find My iPhone (I strongly urge all users to set this up), don't forget to still use a passcode, and set restrictions so a user cannot disable find my iphone. Even with these features in place, there's nothing to prevent a thief from syncing to a computer and performing a fresh install. The point to Find My iPhone is to lock out a thief from getting to your data. Finding the thief's location is a plus, but there's no guarantee you'll achieve that. Location is also helpful if you misplaced your device (home? work? Aunt Martha's?)
