How to add Video to Ipad

I was trying to add some videos from DVD to my Ipad. I use windows 7 64 bit version and Itunes. I tried drag and drop Video files and add the files to library with and without converting video files to MP4 video. Nothing is happening. Please help

The video must be in a format that is compatible with the iPad, which is not an Apple format. The compatible formats are open standards.
