Bought a new MacBook Pro (MBP) and used Migration Assistant to move applications and data files from old MBP. After the migration, and when trying to use Parallels it had problems with its Hard Drive. The winxp.pvm file in the user's Library/Parallels folder was not completely moved. Only about 8 Gb of the 23.33 Gb file was moved. What is the max file size that Migration Assistant will move? Why limit the size?

There is no file size limit. If only 8 GBs of the file was occupied, then MA may have just copied what was on the file. Have you tried using Parallels with the file?

Yes, I tried using Parallels with the smaller file and it failed. I search the Parallels community and found others who had the same problem with Migration Assistant and the answer there was to copy the winxp.pvm file from the old computer to the new computer. I was using a slow Ethernet connection, 100 Mbits, and the transfer said it was going to take over 3 hours to transfer, so I went to bed and tried Parallels this morning after the transfer was completed successfully. It worked with the larger complete file.
Maybe the issue may be a time out on transferring a single file. Is there a time out and what is the time limit? If there is one, I bet it's about an hour.

No, there's no timeout. If the computer is set to go to sleep after a certain time period, then that could cause a disconnect.
In any case you can recover from this easily. Reconnect the two computers via Firewire cable. Boot the old one into Target Disk Mode. Then boot the new one normally. After startup you should see a disk icon for the old computer on the new computer's Desktop. Locate the folder that has the Parallels data and drag it to the same location on the new computer. This should get you back in business.

I've already recovered from this. The file was transferred correctly and I was able to run Parallels successfully.
I think you're right in that the old computers went to sleep and it caused a disconnect. Maybe the instructions when using Migration Assistant on the old computer should include turning off sleep. Especially when the transfer is via a slow Enternet connection.
