Once the IPad is connected, the sound is OK. I have adjusted the volume everywhere but doesn't seem to work on the Face Time ring. All other sounds seem to be OK

Goto Settings>General>Sounds and make sure Ringer and Alerts is turned all the way up.  Also, I have noticed on mine that the ringer volume is still very muted with FaceTime and then when it connects volume is fine.  Don't know if this is something in FaceTime but it appears that way.

You probably have your iPad muted. Check to make sure it is unlocked with the toggle switch on top of the iPad. You can also check your general > use side switch to: > change to Mute and then make sure you turn the sound on.  If you have switched it to Lock Rotation while it was muted it will stay muted.

He states he has volume everywhere else.  I know what he is talking about, so it probably isn't muted.  Mine rings very quietly no matter what my volume settings.  I can barely hear it.  Then when the other person pops up, the volume is fine.  It is directly related to FaceTime.

This was exactly my problem. I want the switch to control orientation, but I didn't realize if it was muted at the time I made that change it would remain muted forever. That seems like a bug to me. Increasing the volume should defeat the mute.
