uspto.gov TIFFs will not display

I just "upgraded" to 10.6. ( This is an old issue on this chatboard.)

How can I make 10.6 display TIFFs on uspto.gov like 10.4 did?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

The embed tags are poorly formed and Safari is ignoring them.

The line of code used to embed the image looks like this:

<embed src ="/.Dimg?Docid=000000001&PageNum=....." width="570" height="840" type=image/tiff></embed>

Notice that the type attribute is listed without quotes. That is throwing off the current WebKit renderer in Safari.

Apple could likely rewrite WebKit to ignore that error, or the USPTO could fix their html code.

I'm not sure which direction to go with that, but I sent an email to the webmaster.

Best solution I have found is to use alternate patent sites such as www.google.com/patents.

Having said that, below is a partial solution that usually works on newer patent pages (red buttons at top).

Safari 5.0.5 -- On USPTO blank image page, click Front Page, Drawings, etc, and click/drag from the left part of the blank page (where the image should be) and drop on the desktop. Unfortunately, only the first drawing of a series shows up. Changing User Agent from the Develop menu doesn't help.

Firefox 7.0.1 -- Will not display or download TIFFs on USPTO site.

However, Library of Congress TIFFs can be automatically downloaded by changing FF Preferences / Applications / Search / tiff / Action to Save File.

you know it just seems like with each passing update of nearly every product APPLE recently pays less attention to what is really being said out there in the real worlld. Safari, Lion, os6, and now moutain lion. everyone of them has either eliminated an important feature drasticly chaged a feature or screwed up a feature that the consumer, the developers, and anyone familar has grown a custom to. HELLO APPLE IS ANYBODY LISTENING?
