Support for Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable 2.0m

Good day all,

I have just bought the above mentioned wire. I have tried to configure the wire with my TV and I managed to configure the display however I could not setup the sound.

I am using a MAC OSX Snow Leopard Macbook.

When I go to Settings> Sound> Sound Effects > Play Sound effects through:

I am not able to find my TV

When I go to Settings> Sound> Output > Play Sound effects through:

I am not able to find my TV

When I go Utilities> Audi MIDI Setup

I am not able to find my TV

I am using a MAC OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.7

Please advise if another configuration setting is required to use my TV speakers.

Thanks and looking forward for your replies

If you connect the MacBook using a MiniDVI/HDMI or Mini Display Port/HDMI cable you will need to use external speakers for audio. The Mini-DVI/HDMI or Mini Display Port/HDMI doesn't carry audio and there's no audio plugs on the TV to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. If your TV has a DVI plug you can use a Mini-DVI/DVI or Mini Display Port/DVI cable. The TV will have RCA audio plugs for use with the DVI. That's why Apple doesn't sell the HDMI cables. You have to get them from a third party.

Some of the newer TVs can use the DVI audio pugs with the HDMI. You'll have to check with your TV manufacturer to find out if your TV can do this.
