FCP not seeing Sony Z1

Hello,

I am trying to capture footage from a Sony Z1 HDV camera using FCP but when I hook the camera up to the iMac, it's not seeing it.

The connecting process I use is:

1) Start iMac

2) Connect powered off camera

3) Start FCP (I get an error message saying camera could not be found)

4) Power on camera

5) Click "Check again" and receive same error... ad infinitum.

I have set up the 'Easy Settings' and 'AV Settings' the exact same as a friend of mine who has no problem capturing using the same camera and same cable, though he has a MacBook (unsure of model) so I know the cable and the camera are ok.

The settings are:

Seq Preset: HDV - 1080i50

Capture Preset: HDV

Device Control Preset: Sony HDV 1080i50 FireWire

Video: None

Audio: Default

When I hit Cmd-8 I get 'Unable to initialize capture device'.

In System Profiler the only thing the Firewire option says is: FireWire Bus: Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec.

I ran the basic and in-depth hardware diagnostic to make sure there was no issue with the Firewire port.

Do I need to update my FW drivers? If so, any idea where to get them?

I'm using FCP 7.0.3

My iMac is: 27" Mac OSX (10.6.7)

Processor: 3.06Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory: 4GB 1067Mhz DDR3

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the output, the component is set to 1080i/576i, iLink is off, down convert is on Letter Box and A/V-> DV Out is off. Still not detecting it.

The only devices that are connected are the keyboard and mouse, both bluetooth.

The cable I'm using worked on a friends MacBook yesterday using this camera. And the first cable I tried was out of the box last Wednesday.

Does a hardware diagnostic show up a failed port? If the firewire port is broken, how expensive is it to fix?
