Macbook Pro i5 freezing when waking up from sleep.

When I wake up my Macbook Pro 2011 i5 from sleep it freezes or shows a spinning beach ball for almost 10 seconds. This is very annoying and when I took it to the Apple Store they said to reinstall the OS and slowly reinstall the applications. I did that and it's still happening!! I don't know what to do.

Yea it's still happening and it's ******* me off. If I go to the Apple store and they tell me the same thing there is going to be a problem because this has been going on since I bought it. I think Apple knows there is a problem and just don't want to admit it. They were trying to blame it on the software I had but I had no problem with the software on my 6 year MacBook.

OK, thanks. Perhaps it also have something to do with the fact that I have an SSD in my powerbook. Most people have regular drives and this could be the reason why Apple is not in a hurry to address it. Despite this I love my powerbook - it is a 13" i5 but its lightning fast with an SSD - fastest computer I have ever owned. Just this one issue with waking up. :-(.

I have a MacBook Pro 13" i7 with an OCZ Vertex 2 240 GB SSD.

I'm seeing the same problem, but it only happens occasionally. I'm not sure what the trigger is. I haven't noticed it happening specifically after I sleep or wake a certain way. It just randomly happens.

It's annoying to me, though not nearly as much as if it was happening on every wake. I would be at the Apple Store and pretty upset if that was the case. I can go a few days and not see it, though I probably see it at least once every 1-2 days. This computer sees heavy use and sleeps/wakes frequently each day.

Is anyone having this problem with a HD? Or is it specifically related to SSDs?

I just came from the Apple Store and it was no help at all. Since the computer did not freeze when the Genius lifted the lid open he said there nothing he can do. He said it could be a hard drive problem even though I swapped out the original hd for a 500GB 7200 rpm and this problem was happening with the OG HD. He said it could a problem with hard drive connector cable but he did not want to start changing parts if he could not find the problem in the first place. I'm really ****** right now!!

The only solution I found so far is to put computer to sleep manually and then close the lid. It never freezes if I do that. If I close the lid without first putting the computer to sleep there is about 50/50 chance that it will freeze for 15 seconds after waking up. It is somewhat annoying and I think it is somehow related to the SSD. Fortunately, like for the others, it only happens occasionally and I guess I will need to get used to it.

I have had my new 15" core i7 macbook pro for about a month and at first I had the same problem, but I took it into the Apple Store (Portland, OR) and the Apple representative without hesitation exchanged it with a new macbook pro core i5 that had just come in. It works flawlessly and I am so happy for the Apple Store for maintaining their amazing customer service support. I asked the man at the store if they had many cases and he said they had a few but will exchange it for a new one. Remember you all have that 1 year of apple care on your new macbook pro, so take advantage of it.
