usb 2.0 pci card for powermac g4

Goodmorning & Happy new year to everyone 🙂

I bought recently an ipod nano and my powermac mdd g4 is not equipped with USB 2.0 ports :/ I've read in the manual that if i connect the device to a NON 2.0 port the files will be transfered to the ipod from my mac with slower speeds :/

What i can do?

If i buy an adaptec pci card like the one in the link below will this do the trick?

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/product/proddetail.html?sess=no&language=Englis hUS&prodkey=AUA-3100LP&cat=%2fTechnology%2fUSB%2fUSBAdapters

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hi George:

Don't know if you've picked-up a card yet, but I've been running an IOGear card without a hitch for a couple of months now. It's an IOGear GIC251U USB 2.0 PCI Card - 4 external, one internal port. I've also tried a Belkin card, but didn't work for me. My computer specs are below...

G4 867MHz 1.1Gb RAM Mac OS X (10.3.9) IOGear USB 2.0 card, ATI Radeon 9000, Audiophile 2496, SIIG SATA card, Western Digital 200 GB HD

I installed a Belkin FSU220 USB 2.0 PCI card into my G4 (Digital Audio) when I was running OS 10.3.9 and my computer would not awaken from the sleep mode. I then would have to restart my computer. There are many posts relating to this problem in this forum. After a couple of months I installed Tiger 10.4.3 (Merry Christmas to me) Sleep issues have gone away and the Belkin card is performing as it should. I recommend getting the Belkin card and since you are already running Tiger 10.4.3 you should be set. Good luck.

I too had the Belkin card and had the same problems with waking from sleep. I eventually removed the card and stuck with USB 1.1. With the newest OS upgrade that came out last week (10.4.4) I decided to give the card a second try and see if it would work. So far, after a few days of never turning off the computer, it hasn't failed to wake from deep sleep once. Perhaps the issue was fixed with 10.4.4?

In a different thread, someone noted that they have the Sonnet USB card and have also had no problems.
