Fuji e900 slow to load with iPhoto '11

Since upgrading to iPhoto '11 my Fuji Finepix e900 is very slow to appear in the sidebar. With previous incarnations of iPhoto it was fairly much immediate. Also, when it does appear it has a duplicate, meaning that it imports the new images from the camera twice. I've used MacKeeper to fully uninstall/reinstall iPhoto '11 cleanly. The duplicate issue seems to have gone but the sluggish load remains. My library is 5.6GB in total. Grateful for any help with this.

Intel iMac 20, Mac OS X (10.6.7), Airport Extreme, Airport Express. Too many iPods.

Reformat the card in your camera with your camera. Remember that doing this will erase the card so make sure you have all your photos off it first.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've formatted the card as you describe but this has not affected the issue. The duplicate camera also continues to appear.
