Play videos over LAN?

So my iMac has tons of video files on it: movies, personal recordings, etc...

Is there a way I can view these on my ipad over the wifi?

I know about ORB and StreamToMe, but I'm looking for something that doesn't need third party server software installed on my iMac... I want something that uses the standard file sharing protocol in Mac OS X. NetPortal app on target with what I'm looking for, however it is limited to an SMB connection and doesn't play AVI video files.

Is there anything out there that can do this???

Cloud Connect? Don't remember off the top of my head which filesharing protocol it uses. Might be SMB, though that works just fine.

Yes. Enable Home Sharing in iTunes on your iMac and configure Home Sharing under iPod settings on your iPad, and then you should be able to access all of your iTunes files from the iPad using the iPod app, Shared menu item.

All of my videos are on a large external hard drive, so they are not in itunes...

I'm not sure about this, but I think you can move your iTunes Library to this external drive that houses your videos and then import the video files into iTunes.
