Try to reset the iPod by holding Menu and Center together until you see an Apple appear on the screen. Also make sure the iPod is plugged into a USB 2.0 port for charging.
ive tried that numours times , but still no joy , wont respond to anything , tryed it on differnt ports on my laptop , tried it on my alarm , my surround sound , my friends hi-fi , tried it on my car cd player , but wont do anything
It sounds like a dead HD to me, but have you tried to plug it directly in to a wall socket? Will it turn on then? If not I might lean more towards a dead battery maybe?

ipod classic wont do anything , was orking , then i came back to it and it had stopped , wont do anything and screen is black , has its on differnt charges but no joy :(
