Airplay and Marantz SR7005

Last week I bought a Marantz Amplifier SR7005 and upgraded it to Airplay.

The Marantz needs a network connection and connected it to my wireless network trough the Airport Express (cannot bring the Ethernet cable to the router directly since it's four meters away, that's why I decided to use the Airport Express).

My goal is to listen the music from the iMac to the Marantz through Airplay and control everything with the Remote App on the iPhone.

Everything works fine for two-three minutes and then the iMac disconnects and Airplay is no longer working.

I restart iTunes but the Marantz is no more "visible" in the list of available Airplay devices on iTunes...

It rebecomes visible when I restart completely the Airport Express and I set it up again from zero; then it works for two-three minutes again and then crash...

I tried by deactivating Airtunes in Airport Express, deactivating any application that could create confusion but still not solving the problem. All devices are upgraded to the last version available.

The Marantz amplifier remains on the network (in fact I can still see my iMac on the Media Server available) but cannot use Airplay.

Anyone can help me? Thanks a lot in advance.

I have the same problem with my Marantz MC-R603. I have mine wired to the router with a LAN cable but still have the problems of Airplay working intermitently from iTunes and from my iPhone 4.

Airplay icon usually appears after a powercycle of router and Marantz but will only stream music for a while then stop 'freezing' the Marantz, then I cannot get AIrplay icon to reappear.
Very frustrating!

I have read that some routers do not work as well with Airplay as others and considering upgrading my Thompson Gateway (supplied by ISP) to a better router.

Have you had any success in fixing your problem?

Cheers,

I solved my problem by making some corrections to the Network setup:

- DHCP must be OFF;

- The AV receiver needs a Static IP, not Dynamic (you can decide the one you prefer, but be careful not to use one that is already in your network);

- The Default Gateway has to be the same of your network router.

My problem was a network one; now everything is working fine and Airplay is working great.

My AV receiver is connected wirelessly with an Airport Express and I manage iTunes with the Remote app for iPhone or iPad.

Hope it will help you!

Sincerely,

L

I have a problem with airplay and an AV7005.The AV7005 is recognized on iTunes both on my PC and my iMac but when I try to activate the speakers (AV7005) I get error code (-15000) for the PC and (-15006) for the iMac. It also sets the volume very high at -6 on the AV7005. I have tied rebooting all the above including the router but have had no success. The AV7005 is wired to the network and the iMac and PC are wireless.

Thanks for any help

I recentlly bought the Marantz sr6006 and struggled to get the airplay working. I have a mixed wired and wireless network running Mac and two pc's on win 7 via a linksys gigabit router.

The amp saw the LAN and can connect to the pc but not the Mac on the media server. AirPlay never worked on my dhcp enabled network.

I recommend using static ip's as today I reconfigured the network with all static address and the airpay now works perfectly from the Mac, iPhone and iPad and nothing has dropped so far.

Make sure dhcp is turned off on the receiver to enable the static ip address config.

Finally got my response from Marantz which answers the post above. I hope this will help someone else.

You need to reboot (power cycle) the receiver,the router and the IPad. At that point when you open an itunes app you will see the Airplay logo at the bottom right of the Application. I use a Marantz and the email said that when the receiver "sees" something "Airplay" that it automatically will switch to usb/net output. I assume it would be the same for any other receiver. Also suggested was to go into "network settings" on the receiver and to turn on "network standby" feature. Good luck to you.

Bob, Thanks for your post. I tuned on the network standby feature. Now I can see Marantz and airplay to it when it is in standby mode. The receiver turns on and music starts playing. Prior to this change I had to have the receiver turned on for a few minutes, while it connected to the network, then I could use airplay. Now I can use it anytime.

A little history - Initially I had problems getting the downloaded airplay software to work. I called Marantz and they had me reset the receiver. After the reset the I could see airplay and the streaming began! To reset the SR7005 turn off the receiver (put it in standby mode), then hold down the surround mode and auto buttons, then press the power button - you should see the Marantz screen flash mulitple times - after a few flashes release the buttons and the system has been reset. Apparently you only lose your Audyssey settings.

Airplay now works as it should. Thanks again Bob.

I read through this post and still could not get airplay working. I had the same issue as everyone else with a twist. I saw Marantz in my Airplay list on my iPhone and I could select it but no music came out of the speakers. BobAlbright's post had the clue I needed. I had disabled the Net/USB input on my list and was (as I now found out) disallowing the mode to auto-switch. I re-enabled Net/USB and voila! All is well.

That was really obscure.

What gmistery said fixed my issue. I had issues where my Marantz and Denon would both show up as available Airplay output devices on my phones and MBP. I couldn't get the music to play, however, and I found that the "Network" output was hidden in my receiver config. I changed it back to show and now it works beautifully. Couldn't find that anywhere in the manual, so it's a tricky one.
