If i restore my iphone will i lose everything?

I went to update my iphone 4 for the first time but an error occurred and now the "connect to itunes" screen is just showing but it says i have to restore my iphone, as none of my media is on my computer will i lose everything on it?

If you mean iTunes content, yes you will lose everything. No iTunes content is included in the iPhone backup. iTunes content should be in your iTunes library on your computer and that library regularly backed up. If for some reason you have failed to do this(bad idea), you will lose everything. Apps you can re-download for free, the rest is gone. The iPhone is not a stand-alone storage device for reasons just like this.
