can't select account type in Mail

I am trying to set up a new Mail account. It's a gmail account (through TDS) and I have already enabled IMAP using the web interface. Mail is not allowing me to choose the account type, and is setting up a POP account, and not letting me change to IMAP afterwards, either. Any ideas?
