iPhone 4 Home Button not working properly

Hi all,

My iPhone home button (round button at the bottom) has started "not responding correctly." Sometimes when I press the button it works as it should, but other times it takes at least 10 clicks before anything happens. I can hear the clicking sound that the button physically makes so I can't imagine that it's hardware related - but it sometimes doesn't want to do anything.

After searching Google and the forums it seems to be pointing towards a software issue? I upgraded the phone to the latest software 4.3 around 3 weeks ago.

Modern Firmware - 01.10.01

Any advice is much appreciated,

mrdanang

Hi,

just to let all of you know I had the same problem and I took my phone to apple store in Covent Gardens London. the guy looked at it and he said that the button had sunk in its place. Luckily my phone was within warranty so he said I will replace it for you with brand new phone. However the warranty on the new phone is 90 days only despite the fact that it is brand new.

Good luck with sorting out yours.

By the way before you go to apple make sure to back up all your data.

I FOUND THE ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM !!!!!

AFTER DOING EVERYTHING THAT ALL OF YOU SUGGESTED (WITH NO SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT WHAT SO EVER), I DISCOVERED THAT THE PROBLEM IS RALATED TO THE HARDWARE OF THE IPHONE.

ANOTHER GUY BEFORE MENTIONED THAT IN ORDER TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM YOU SHOULD UNSCREW THE BACK OF THE PHONE (VERY EASY AND SAFE IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SCREW DRIVER) AND PRESS THE DEVICE EXACTLY BEHIND THE HOME BUTTON. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS BECAUSE THE CONNECTION IS NOT GOOD DUE TO USAGE. THE GUY WAS RIGHT !!!

FINALLY IN ORDER TO CLOSE THIS DISCUSSION, THE ONLY THING THAT YOU MUST DO, IS JUST PLACE A SMALL PIECE OF PAPER INSIDE THE PHONE JUST BEHIND THE HOME BUTTON (BETWEEN THE BACK AND THE HEADPHONE-MICROPHONE) AND CLOSE THE BACK AGAIN...

I wouldn't advise doing anything that will void ur warranty, I took mine to apple and they told me they are aware of the problem and that it is a hardware problem and I walked out of the apple store with a new phone, trying to fix it at home urself might sound good but what if it doesn't work and then u can't take it to apple cause they will know u have tried to fix it urself, good luck to ppl having this trouble and my advise is take it to apple and they r happy to give u a new phone

1. Go to Settings and turn on the "passcode lock". Select the option to lock immediately with any combination of your choosing.

2. Open any application.

3. Press the power button to lock your phone.

4. Press the power button to unlock.

5. Before entering your combination/lock code, press "Emergency Call" and then tap the bottom left arrow to go back. (Don't fret - this won't dial an emergency number.)

6. Now, enter your passcode.

7. Your Home button will be recalibrated and function normally.
