Feb 13, 2012 9:18 PM in response to ChrisHoathby Caesar113,At least read the last 3-5 pages of thread. Realize from everyone's trial and error and applied logic that this is definitely not a software problem. Try the things suggested by other community members. Find a solution that works for you.

Feb 14, 2012 10:21 PM in response to Caesar113by simmo92,My iphone4 developed this problem recently. I tried cleaning the home key and lots of other 'fixes' but nothing worked. The fault seemed to be worse when the phone had just been taken off charge but remained intermitent. I appear to have fixed the issue by closing down all apps before charging and pressing the standby key on the top right of the phone so the screen is black before I plug it into the charger. When i put it on charge now the screen goes from black standby to the battery charging image and then back to black after a few seconds. Now when I take the phone off charge the home key works absolutely fine...worth a go in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Using the iPhone cable to push up on the underside of home button worked like a charm.

Feb 18, 2012 6:06 AM in response to mrdanangby Vinaysinha,Got to Settings -> General -> Accessibility. Scroll down to bottom and tap on “AssistiveTouch” option. Set it ON to activate the option.
After setting AssistiveTouch to ON, you will see a transparent round button at the bottom right of the screen. Tap on that round button to bring the touch menu.
You will find the Home button option that works just like as the physical home button.

Feb 21, 2012 8:32 PM in response to mrdanangby OspreyGuy22,After reading a number of forum posts I decided on a simplier route. Rather than "finding the right side of the button" to hit or taking it apart and adding electrical tape or w/e. I just fired a compressed air in to the port at the bottom and cleaned out whatever was/may have been in there. So far, so good.

Feb 21, 2012 10:14 PM in response to mrdanangby KennethLA,When im not using the otter case defender for iphone 4 the home button feels so bad... It doesnt respond quickly... But i observed when im using the said casing for iphone 4 it works well.. I mean the home button is working properly.. This may resolve your problem.. But hey, i know otter case is sometimes too big on your palm. Thats why sometimes i need to find another rightful solutions with this issue..

Feb 22, 2012 2:15 AM in response to mrdanangby mrdanang,Thought I would add more to this discussion as it's picked up so much interest. The problem was not software related at all, and after speaking with the Genius bar - it turned out to be a hardware problem. I was given a new phone there and then and I've been using it fine ever since.
Hope this helps someone!

Feb 24, 2012 7:26 AM in response to mrdanangby Peloquin1981,All of my friends who have the iPhone 4 (myself included) have this same problem. I've tried all the solutions I can find online and none of them have worked. The problem just seems to come and go. I really wish Apple would address this. Does anyone know if the latest iPhone has this same issue?

Feb 24, 2012 8:48 AM in response to Peloquin1981by ivan1,One of my coworkers joined the ranks of those of us with this problem this week. I told her, and suggest to all of you, to post or like the Facebook page for iphone 4 broken home button victims...

Feb 26, 2012 8:16 AM in response to mrdanangby Fahrside,Been suffering with this problem for weeks. Took the phone to Apple store and we ran through the deleting of open apps procedure. Of course later that day the home button went right back to not working again.
So I tried the suggestion of hitting the button from the side, and son of a gun, it's been working pretty much 100% of the time now. I was using the assistive touch feature for a while, but frankly it was a PIA having to move the button around all the time. Thank to whoever suggested the "side" approach. I was about to lose my sanity and heaven forbid, even considered going over to the dark side and getting a droid.....

Feb 29, 2012 8:13 PM in response to mrdanangby CarpeDM,My home button stopped working earlier today. I've been reading the posts, and tried whacking the back of my phone. It worked! I REALLY don't think it's a software issue! Try doing that to yours. Good luck! :-) Liz

Mar 1, 2012 5:45 AM in response to chrisfromroanokeby ashleyfromwexford,There is no software issue with my phone. If it was software I would be having problems with my apps not my home button. Just like you I find myself snashing the button so hard that I swear I am going to break my phone. I take it since your phone wasn't under warranty and neither is mine, was it expensive to fix the issue? I'm eligable for upgrade in April so should I just wait for then and geta 4S or fix it? If I had an Iphone 5 release date that would anser my question easily!!!! Thank you!
