FINALLY WORKING AGAIN!!! I followed the methods mentioned in this forum:
- Drop a couple of drops rubbing alchohol on the home button and press repeatedly
- Use some compressed air in the charging slot at the bottom
- Get a new case
Just like SYR, I got the Otterbox case and it has had more sucess keeping the home button working than any other case I've had. Protects the bottom of the phone from more crap getting up in there and the way it applies pressure to the home button must also help. Thanks everybody for your help!
LOVE the Otterbox Case!!! I have been using it for a few days and I haven't had the issue since!

Jul 27, 2013 2:33 PM in response to mrdanangby Pete Witt,No calibration. No tools. No water. No alcohol. Just two thumbs.
I think the error occurs because the body is bent after a time, especially if you, like I do, carry the iPhone in the back pocket or if it has fallen to the ground. The contact with the underlying switch buttons suffers under the bending. The solution is easy: bend the body back!

Aug 5, 2013 10:05 AM in response to Pete Wittby Sabri@world,I think my home but had dust or more like grime on it... My home button finally died completely today to the point where I could only, switch off / switch on to change appsI began by blowing into the charger hole and it came back to life, I blew multiple time and then use the alcohol with the cotton bud (it came out dirty), now my button is as responsive as ever!

Aug 6, 2013 6:34 AM in response to mrdanangby tacura,Calibration is a temporary solution. The main reason is DUST. Blow away the dust with air than you have a solution.

I was very sceptical of this fix, but it worked amazingly! So simple.

Reset didn't work
Alcohol didn't work.
Blowing didn't work.
Running off Bluetooth: WORKED

Sep 12, 2013 1:04 PM in response to RyNwidwestby Zinzibars,I had to push the Home Button REALLY hard to get it to respond. I tried air bursts on the Home Button but that did not work for me,. Then I tried putting a drop of rubbing alcohol on the home button as you mentioned, and pressing it several times so that the fluid could seep in and hopefully wash away any dirt. It worked right away! Now about 5 hours later, the button is acting up again. It's not as bad as it was, but I still have to push it harder than necessary to get it to respond. I think that the dirt was not sufficiently washed away. I'll try the alcohol again and this time shoot some air in their afterwards to help get the dirt out. Thanks for the tips!!!
