Forgive me if this question sounds silly, why is it that when i try to download even from Apple.com, it just has an empty window? In the end, I end up looking for a PC to download .dmg files from Apple.com! It's difficult when my whole house uses Macs. Why does that happen? It seems stupid to me that I can't download files meant for my Macs from the people who make Macs in the first place! can someone please explain? TQ
If you try another browser, e.g Firefox is this also the case?
I am using Firefox. I believe I've had the same problem with Safari too.
I have read of people not being able to open a .dmg file, but not being able to download one to start with, is very unusual. It is not a general condition that has a ready answer.
If it was my problem, I would try to analyse it by asking,
-has this OS always behaved like this, or is it a new development?
-is it just a particular website or even webpage where it doesn't work and is fine elsewhere?
-is it just one particular .dmg that won't download.
and test the answers.
Such questions and answers may help to hone into the cause of the problem. I was inclined to think it might be a browser problem but if other browsers behave the same, maybe others have an answer to your problem.
Hold down "Option/Alt" when you click.
This helped for me. But why? I did not need to do that before. Do you know why?
It's like holding the cmd keywhen clicking to open the link in a new tab.
Would it have anything to do with the magic mouse?
My mini has been having trouble to connect to it lately. I needed to manually couple it through prefs.
go into your User Account Library folder, there into the subfolder "preferences" and locate the prefs for Firefox ( and/or Safari, other Browsers .. ) . Typically the preference file contains the apps or the companies name , for example
com.mozilla.firefox.plist would be the preference for the app firefox from the company mozilla..
com.apple.safari.plist for safari , etc..
simply delete these prefs while the apps are not active.
then launch said browsers new and they will behave like originally installed, unmodified settings. This surely will cure the file association problems with downloads.

it worked for a little while, now I can't download zip files. Although the alt-button helps.
Deleting the plst file doesn't help.

I know it was a mistake, I don't care about fullscreen browsing, I want my adobe.
