Does the place you bought it from even sell unlocked iPhones? There is no inherent way to know from looking at or examining the device. Either ask the shop you bought it from about it, or the person you bought it from.

All iPhones purchased from official sources in Indonesia are sold as officially unlocked. If you obtained your phone from an official source, it is officially unlocked. You can confirm such by inserting a sim from any carrier other than the carrier you are now using. If you don't get any error messages(Sim not Supported), you're good to go.

but i'm not sure about that, because long time before i bought my iphone, in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937?viewlocale=en_US indicated that iPhone bought from that carrier were locked....

but, i don't know since when, after or before i bought my iPhone, the information changed to 'unlocked'

if i bought before it changed then my phone is locked and i should try to unlock it..

but if i bought after, then i don't need to worry about that...

ok, i will try inserting sim from another carrier...

So can't you just call their support people and ask them? How long ago were they locked? It may only have been the very first iPhone that was locked to them, and since the 3G or 3Gs has not been so. Even then, since they sell iPhone 4's unlocked, they may simply authorize an unlock on an older, locked phone. Eeither way, the carrier's own support folks should be able to tell you.

I mean, unlike USA carriers, yours is clearly not opposed to the idea of unlocked phones, so I can't see why they wouldn't give you a simple direct answer tpo the question.
