iPhoto 9.1.2 splitting events in iOS

Hello,

I upgraded yesterday to iPhoto 9.1.2 and after synching my iOS devices like I normally do with iTunes, I noticed my events in iOS are split into several events with the same name, but in iPhoto they show up as only one event.

For example I have an event in iPhoto labeled "Lake Tahoe 2009" and when I see events in my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 1) the event is split into:

All together they contain all the photos from that event, but I don't understand why it's splitting the event into so many. Some events are split into as many as 15 events with the same name all containing some photos of that event.

Moreover, when I see my device in iTunes, in the Photos section, I originally had it set to "Sync Photos from iPhoto - All photos, albums, events and faces". if I change it to "Selected albums, events, and faces" I get a list with all the duplicated events. (see screenshot)

You see all those repeated events? Again, in my iPhoto application, the events show up as a single one, instead of multiple copies with the same name and only a section of the photos.

This started happening when I updated to iPhoto 9.1.2

ftoledo, I feel you. I got the exact same problem and it's ******* me off. I do hope Apple is gonna FIX this together with the location tracking debacle soon! I do have a suggestion for a workaround but it's by no means a complete solution. Just create albums from your events and sync those albums instead. Well, at least they stay in one place!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give an update. I ended up calling apple as well to let them know. Since this is a new update, they said that they will pass it up to the engineers. I also mentioned that it is an issue seen in the AppleTv (Thanks @duncansby) as well. They made me do some capture data, and send it to them, so as soon as I hear back from the representative about the issue (after he talks with the engineers), I'll be sure to post back here. Hopefully they will release an update to fix this issue before I even have a chance to post a new reply =)

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey Neel,

Thank you for going the extra mile there. I started searching for this issue on the net a lot yesterday and for a moment I thought I was the only one having this problem because there weren't any reports on it. Glad to know it's a general thing, I'm sure they'll address it in the near future, it looks awful on iOS.

I am having the same problem with iPhoto communicating with my iOS devices (iPhone 4 verizon and iPad 1 AT&T). If I had any problem before I would just go to Users/myname/Pictures/iPhoto Library right click on the iPhoto Library folder and push on “Show Package Content”. When it opened I would find a folder called iLifeShared and delete it. After that I would shut down iphoto and iTunes. Then I reopen iPhoto and then iTunes in that order. Doing it in that order makes iPhoto remake the iLifeShared folder and then everything syncs correctly. But now I tried that and it didn't work for the first time. What had happened was all my events disappeared from iTunes. After that I restarted iTunes and the events went back to that odd order ftoledo is talking about. I even tried deleting the iPod Photo Cache that iTunes uses in the iPhoto Library folder. That did not work either. Pleas Fix Apple!

Hey Scarcity,

When I called Apple, they told me to do a similar thing. The method they told me to use was the hold command and option together and open iPhoto. There you can repair or rebuild the library as you suggested. I think it does the same thing you stated, but possibly in a "safer" method because you aren't manually deleting files within the iphoto library package. Regardless, just as you stated, doing this didn't end up working. Just wanted to suggest another (possibly safer) way to try what you did. I too hope Apple fixes this quickly

@Fernando No need to thank me haha, just wanted to see if I could get more minds on figuring out what is going on.

BTW, I realized that what could possibly be going on is that iTunes/iOS is looking at each event, but then looking at the different folders they are in. For example: I have Event ABCD, and in that event there is 10 pictures. However, sometimes iPhoto will list the pictures into separate folders (possibly due to the time the pictures were taken and through which camera? I'm unsure). You can see this by opening Event ABCD (which is having this problem of splitting events), and choosing the first picture and going to File>Reveal in Finder>Original File. Then if you do the same for the last picture in said event, you'll notice that it is in a different folder. If iTunes splits the Event into, for example, Event ABCD (5), Event ABCD (3), Event ABCD (2), you'll notice that there are 3 SEPARATE folders within the itunes library package, each containing 5, 3, and 2 pictures.

Therefore, I'm thinking that it's probably a miscommunication with iPhoto and iTunes, resulting in it reading it as separate folders within the iphoto library package rather than one single event.

I just found one other problem. I just synced my iPhone because I wonted my photos out of my phone tell the problem would be fixed.

Well after it was done, all my photos were still on my phone but not the extra events.

So then I took a closer look at what photos were there and not there. I also looked back at what photos were being separated into other events before. What I had found is my newest photos I had just put into iPhoto are the only ones being put into the separate events and are the ones missing from my phone now.

I don’t think this will help but it would be rude not to share.
