customary stationary mail says "missing plug-in"

I am on 10.12.2 Sierra on MacBook Pro and get same Missing Plug-in error when using a stationery template. Eventually reset Java control panel to default settings via Java in Preferences which leads to another control panel. Anybody got a solution to save me going back too my Leopard MacBook?!!

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one. Post in the Sierra community.

Quit Mail. Launch the Java Preferences application (in /Applications/Utilities), select the General tab if not already selected, check the boxes next to both listed versions of Java, and click the "Restore Defaults" button. Quit Java Preferences. Relaunch Mail.

I'm on OS 10.6.8, Mail 5.0.4, and Java Version 6 - this solution did not work and I only have one version of Java listed under Java preferences. Any more ideas? I did notice that I can cut & paste some images, but, the pasted copy turns to grey scale vs color. Also, it appears that only jpeg images get the "missing plugin" message.

I have 10.7.2 and this does NOT work for me. Am really sad and frustrated, as all of my new years greeting cards I painstaking composed individually today through iphoto have been lost (they do not appear in sent mail) and-or labelled "missing plug it'.

Same here (using 10.7.3): NO GO with this tip. I'll look forward to any good solutions that come up.

in my case I have several "Notes" in apple mail that used to contain clippings (screen shots/.png's) which are now missing p-in's. I'd like to be able to recover these images.

The Java fix also did not work for me on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and latest version of Mail 4.5. Can't Apple weigh in?

Slightly different iteration of the same problem. I have two macs running 10.7.5 and 10.8.2 - on both of them when I add photos to a standard template in stationery - the template accepts the drag and drop photo, but does not allow resizing and also it locks the copy blocks. When I send it as a test is when I get the missing plug in notification.

This use to work - maybe two months ago...

So what has changed?

finally after upgrading to maverick this issue is solved. BUT: now Mail shuts down when I'm adding attachments. Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

i downloaded and installed java and it worked. make sure to completely close mail app and restart. Download Free Java Software
