i've dropped my ipod touch 4th gen and the screen has smashed in one corner and cracked right across the screen. How much would it cost for Apple to repair this?

Prices defend on how much gb's of storage your iPod touch has got:

iPod touch 8 GB (4th gen.) $99

iPod touch 32 GB (4th gen.) $149

iPod touch 64 GB (4th gen.) $199

That's a lot when you compare it to the original price, that's also why you should never drop your iPod (what is impossible) and of course buy a case to protect it!

Why the price difference b/w 8, 32, 64gb...isn't the screen the same size for all?

We are not talking about the screen. We are talking about a new iPod.

What? I thought this thread was about replacing a screen...The prices listed above are not for a new one, thats for sure.

They give you a refurbished model for a flat fee

What is a flat fee? How much? I did the same thing (first time I dropped it) and the crack is identical.

Try these guys out they fixed many of my iPod touch screens they are great and have great prices they only charge $50 for screen repairs on iPhone touch 4g.

This same thing happened to me. I was told you have to buy a new one, not get a refurbished model.

I'm sorry to say that there is now way to get the screen repaired without buying a replacement. Now on the other hand, to be safe I would probably buy an Iphone and get Apple Care that way you are guarenteed that if it ever happens again you can get it fixed for free. I had the same problem, I dropped my ipod at the park and a duck stepped on it. If your Ipod is still within its warranty you can buy a replacement for only $99.00. The warranty doesn't include accidental damages though so if you want a ipod you will have to get a replacement, sorry, but don't worry everything will be on the new one that you have now, they will back it up to icloud.

I wouldn't recommend sending it to somewhere your unaware of, they may not send it back
