17" Macbook Pro 2011 faulty SATA 3 cable

Greetings everyone,

I apologize if I am starting another thread on a previous discussed issue.

I did a quick search on this, and I didn't come up with any results.

So there are numerous mentioning on the web regarding this faulty SATA 3 cable in 2011 Macbook Pros, only in 17" models.

As I have been considering upgrading my mechanical drive to an SSD and kept researching for which one to go with, I continue to come across this issue over and over.

Does anyone have any input/knowledge on this?

I purchased mine back in early March, and according to this, it appears to affect only earlier models.

Other forums say that there are third party cables that fix the problem, such as this one, and this one.

But I'm afraid that the fix may not be confirmed at this point.

Indeed, the SATA III main drive cable is faulty and/or not rated for 6G. Works fine for 3G. SOME 17 inch models are coming with cables that work, many don't. If indeed it's a 3G rated cable, for which some come out able to handle the 6G - its your lucky day. Hope either a) Apple starts including 6G rated / tested cables, b) Apple provides option to buy a 6G rated cable ; or c) Aftermarket starts selling 6G rated / tested cables. It's that simple.

This is based on first hand testing of multiple 17 inch units with manufacture dates between week 6 and week 10.

Cheers
