how can I fix error 4221 on itunes while recording a disc
Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

Writing CD text is turned on in the preferences. If you’re having problems burning CDs, try turning this preference off.
The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4221(0x0000107d). It happened on drive E: MATSHITA DVD+-RW UJ-875S on CDR media at speed 24X.

We'd better quickly doublecheck ... are you able to do the burn with a 4221 if you turn Writing CD text off?
Make sure a song from your playlist is not paused in iTunes while you are burning a cd.
Correction; MAKE SURE NOTHING is paused in your iTunes. Since iTunes doesn't have a 'stop button' close iTunes and re-open it then burn the playlist. Don't forget to lower your burning speed aswell and have no other programs open.
