Importing .ram or .smil files into iTunes for Mac

Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so how to do it? When I try to import a .ram or .smil file from within iTunes, I can see the file name in the list of what is on my desk top but it is gray, and I cannot click on it.

(I want to be able to listen to archived radio shows on my iPod, like This American Life, that use RealPlayer and have the affix .ram, as well as Fresh Air, which is .smil .)

I'm worried that the only recorded radio I can save on iTunes (and therefore listen to on my iPod) is podcasts.

I would appreciate any help you can give me. I'm baffled.

I'd like to repost my reply. I went to NPRs web site and clicked on their help button. It showed me what I needed to do to get 'smil' to work. They explain what 'smil' is and how it works. Once you set your browser to either RealPlayer or Windows Media Player you can click on the smils and they will load and play via whicheve player you have chosen.
