how do i rename a File or Folder

it must be a silly question for those folk who know, "how do i rename a file or folder"?

for example, i am in Finder, i have learnt how to Duplicate, so now i think it would make sense to rename the duplicate copy with perhaps the date to help me know when i Duplicated for when i want to fall back on the duplicated copy, if i mess up the original etc.

I am making copies and renaming Folders containing Dreamweaver Web Site templates downloaded purchased from the Net.

ps. i have single finger tapped and two finger tapped the relevant files/folders but i aint getting anywhere !

Hi Tim

To rename a folder/file in Finder is quite simple.

You can either right click, and choose "Get Info", and change it under "Name & Extension", but the quickest way, it to select the file, and hit return on your keyboard, this will put the file/folder into rename mode, then you simply press return when you're done

Renaming files on a PC is a snap. Select the file and press F2, type in the new name, and then press enter. Or instead of pressing F2, you can use your mouse to click a second time on the file name, which will allow you to type in the new name.

I was missing the F2 keyboard shortcut on the Mac. To make matters worse, I didn’t see a “Rename” option in the Finder file menu. Was I really left to using the mouse? Well, it turns out you can use the Enter key in place of the F2 key. I guess I was used to using the Enter key to open the file…nope…the Enter key allows you to rename the file. Try it!
