I read many questions about my issue, including page 170 of the manual but nothing seems to work. My iPad won't start at all but when plugged into an outlet, it will intermittently flash the apple logo. I tried hard reset multiple times. When it's plugged into an outlet and I try the hard reset (home button and sleep/wake button pressed simultaneously), eventually I receive the image to plug the USB into iTunes. I unplug it from the wall and plug it into my Mac but as soon as I unplug it from the wall, the iPad goes black and is unresponsive. iTunes will not recognize the device. If it's plugged into my Mac via the USB, the hard reset doesn't work. I charged it over night thinking it was a power issue but that hasn't helped either. It worked find a few months ago but now nothing. I don't know what to do.

Did you have any luck getting your iPad going?  I'm having the same problem with mine. It won't start up, either when plugged into the wall outlet or my MacBook Pro. The reset didn't work (holding both power and menu buttons down for 10+ seconds).  When plugged into the outlet I do get the apple icon for maybe 10 seconds, then it disappears. I tried the reset when connected to iTunes, nothing.

I ended up taking my iPad to the Apple store and after they looked at it they said they couldn't fix it. I don't recall off hand what the problem was but they determined it could not be repaired. Because it was still under warranty they switched it out and gave me a brand new one.

Sorry to hear that it couldn't be fixed!   I've been experiencing what sounds like the same problem.  Came home from vacation and it just wouldn't turn on. I also get the apple icon briefly when it's plugged in. I can't remember if it was plugged in when I was gone or not, but it was fine when I left, so it's a complete mystery why it would just stop working. I don't have a surge protector where I often charge it; could a power surge be the cause?
