Connected Mini Display Port to HDMI, but no display on TV.

I am tying connecting my Panasonic HDTV to my macbook pro using mini display port to HDMI converter. But unable to get any video/audio on my Panasonic HDTV.

When I connect the TV using the HDMI cable the macbook pro recognises the TV and I could see the TV name and display options while clicking on "gather windows" button. However, there is no display on the TV.

Please assist me with the possible issue and how this could be rectified.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm,

Try disconnecting the mini-displayport connector and see if the MBP screen darkens/flickers for a second (and similarly when you then reconnect the mini-displayport connector). This will confirm that the connection cable is actually working.

If this does happen, you can narrow it down to the MBP or TV.

Of course, there's probably a much easier solution but I haven't used my MBP with an external display for over a year and so I'm a little rusty with things.

Out of interest, is it a new MBP with Thunderbolt port? I haven't tried using that to connect to an external display yet.

Yeah it was for the MBP.

I suggest trying this (if you haven't already) because your problem seems to have baffled me. It may well lead to the answer or another similar problem. I'm guessing it's an official Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI connector and not a cheap 'Hong Kong eBay' alternative?
