Connected Mini Display Port to HDMI, but no display on TV.

It sounds obvious (and patronising) but the TV is on the correct channel/input, right?

Secondly, try choosing the 'mirror displays' option under the same options menu you're in. This should give you an idea if the TV is the problem or the Macbook.

Try disconnecting the mini-displayport connector and see if the MBP screen darkens/flickers for a second (and similarly when you then reconnect the mini-displayport connector). This will confirm that the connection cable is actually working.

If this does happen, you can narrow it down to the MBP or TV.

Of course, there's probably a much easier solution but I haven't used my MBP with an external display for over a year and so I'm a little rusty with things.

Out of interest, is it a new MBP with Thunderbolt port? I haven't tried using that to connect to an external display yet.

Okay, on the Displays screen in Preferences, uncheck the 'Automatically Adjust brightness' option, check 'show displays in menu bar' and press 'detect displays'.

See where that gets you.

Failing that, try changing the resolution on the list - even to any old random one and see what happens.

Yeah it was for the MBP.

I suggest trying this (if you haven't already) because your problem seems to have baffled me. It may well lead to the answer or another similar problem. I'm guessing it's an official Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI connector and not a cheap 'Hong Kong eBay' alternative?

while plugged in in the box on your macbook where it says panasonic TV under resolutions select 1080p or whatever resolution your TV is

This really is an odd one. The only thing I can suggest is a faulty adapter that, although the Mac recognises it, doesn't send a signal to your TV. That, or there's a really silly, simple thing you're missing.

Did you ever find a resolution to this? I'm having the exact same problem with my iMac and Sharp TV.

One other variable that is worth checking is to make sure the refresh rate setting for the tv in the Displays preferences is set to 60 Hz (NTSC).

One common Mini DisplayPort problem is the amount of force required to seat the Mini DisplayPort cable in the socket. You must push until essentially all of the metal part of the cable-end disappears inside the socket.

Thanks for the replies. The refresh rate is at 60 Hz and the cable is fully in, so those aren't the issues.

The confusing part is this has been working for months now then last week it just stopped working. I didn't change anything about the computer or TV so I'm really scratching my head.

Any other thoughts?
