IPad2 sold in uae no facetime

iPad 2 from official distributor in the UAE does not have the facetime app, you can not do anything about it...it is blocked by the Model number...the model # of those offically from the UAE have AE on the last two letter of their model #... those from the US have LL on the last two letters...so the firmware will detect this model # and will not install the facetime app. My ipad2 I bought from souq.com (Grey market) and I have the facetime app, I have updated my firmware to 4.3.2 and still I have the facetime app. So even if you go to other country or create an account with other country facetime will not be installed in your iPad2. The only solution is to buy from a country with facetime or buy the grey market ipad2.

This is the same thing with the iPhone 4's that were officially sold here in the UAE, no facetime unless you jailbreak the iPhone4, and there still no jailbreak for ipad2 right now.

You can try these: If you can borrow an iPad 2 with facetime app (grey market one) make a BACKUP from your pc of this ipad, then UPGRADE/RESTORE with 4.3.2 firmware your ipad 2. Once done restore the BACKUP of the ipad that has the facetime app. This way all the software and .plist settings will be restored to your iPad. Goodluck and hope this works.

I too also have the same issue. I have jut brought my IPad 2 in Dubai and it doesn't have Facetime in it.

If you can take it back for a refund then do so if FaceTimes is important to you. FaceTime is not installed on Dubai sold iPads, and as I believe that it is blocked by the serial number, you will not be able to get it via iOS updates.

Yip, I am finding out that if you buy and setup in the UAE you are screwed. Everything is restricted, even getting the Discovery Channel Free APP is restricted and unaccessible in the UAE store.

I am returning my product - period.

Oh and if you ask for support you are directed to phone Apple in the UK at your cost, and guess how helpful Apple UK is when they find out you are in the UAE... you guessed right.

How do I get my US bought iPad to work FaceTime in UAE?

Taken to Europe: worked fine.

Now in Dubai: FaceTime still active, receive calls, but won't switch through to video chat despite "accepting". And can't call out either.

Did anyone find a solution? Any suggestions?

It's my understanding that the UAE countries filter/censor whatever term you want to use, the servers in their countries to block Facetalk and I think even iMessage (although I could be wrong on that part)

Same basic technology as China blocking certain sites. THere's a nationwide firewall of a sort to block facetime in the UAE.

If I buy the USA version here will face time work in Dubai? If i buy one in the UK and register it there would it work here in Dubai. Anyway does anybody know when or if facetime will be allowed.

Yes it will work, but you need to install VPN from apple store cost 0.99$ per month. It will work without any problem same as mine.
