iPad 2 smart cover giving black marks?

Hi I have have iPad 2 smart cover and when I fold it to type or to watch a movie the smart cover is leaving black marks, it is coming from the smart cover magnet place where it connects to the iPad. It's leaving marks on the iPad on the back and not en smart cover it's self. I don't know if it is a reaction with the metal and the micro fibers on the smart cover.

Will apple replace smart cover?

Thanks

If ive understood you correctly, I think I was having the same issue. I'm guessing it must be a problem with the iPad 2 smart covers. You can get it off with a damp cloth but I wouldn't do that too often or else it will damage the polish.

To be honest, I wish I never bought the smart cover. Its 35 pound for a flimsy piece of polythene which provides no protection to the iPad and is not very effective as an upright stand (for typing stand it is ok). There is MUCH better, high quality stuff available on amazon and eBay. I bought a case for 7 pound off amazon and it doesn't leave any black marks, is a much better stand, provides better protection, is more functional and looks nicer (leather)

I'd recommend you do the same if you want to avoid the black marks.

I tried first phone support but the guy I dealt with was kind of dumb. So Took it to the Covent Garden's Store here in London and they have replaced it for a new one. This one is better than the previous one, but still the cover leaves marks. It attracts metal particles that overtime scratch the surface. So, quite an evident defect in the overall design of the cover.

Another fault with the so called "smart" cover is that over time it will create lines on the screen, these marks are caused by the bending/folding movement of the cover when rolling open or closed.

My ipad 2 has a screen protector fitted so the marks are thankfully only on the protector HOWEVER my sons ipad 2 does not have a screen protector and his screen now has the lines so his ipad 2 will be taken into an Apple Store at our earliest opportunity - this make take a while as in my part of the UK the only apple stores are where one can buy fruit!!

By the way, these will NOT clean off. 😠

The moto therefore is:-

If you use a "smart" cover (I now laugh at the term "smart") then make sure you use a screen protector! âš

Unfortunately, I know apple will not replace this or help to fix this problem with the smart cover because I have called and talked to them. Only if you had bought a warranty with your iPad I'm sure they would be GLAD to fix it. Im having the same exact problem though, and believe me I know!.. Its aggravating.

It almost looks like its leaking the magnet or whatever the black stuff inside of the bar on the protector is on top the side of my white iPad (silver), so it is very noticeable. Every now and again I get some water and a paper towl and get it off, but you can still see very faded black dots where it leaked onto my iPad. It started off with one black spot, then the other end started leaking, right where the bar pivots. And then where the actual magnetic strip is I have multiple lack dots, but they don't leak. So I'm beyond frustrated. I'm about to buy a nice silicone or leather case for this bad boy and call it done.

Probably going to trash this "smart cover" very soon.

Sorry, but there really isn't anything you can do at this point but get a new protector.

Hope this helps!
