Got receipt for an unauthorized purchase, please help!

Let's be clear, the only iDevice we own is a single iPHone 3GS:

Last night I received an invoice stating I downloaded a free App called Texas Poker from KAMAGAMES LTD. The app, which I have never downloaded (it isn't in my iTunes nor on my phone), has made two in-app purchases:

Texas Poker, 500k chips, Seller: KAMAGAMES LTD 9.99

Texas Poker, 500k chips, Seller: KAMAGAMES LTD 9.99

After taxes, this total invoice comes out to 22.76$, which is the total amount I had left in my account from a gift card I had redeemed a couple of months earlier.

I have never downloaded such an app, therefore these in-app purchases are impossible for me to have made. I reported this by e-mail to iTunes support but it's the weekend and I really want this settled ASAP.

Thank god I did not have a credit card linked to my account.

What can I do from this point on?

All of this follows my installing of an app called Paperboy:Special Delivery, which is free and does not allow for in-app purchases.

I do not gamble and NEVER play poker.

How can I get my money back from this illegal, unauthorized purchase?

add on add on:

The messure from Global Times here in: http://www.e-recht24.de/news/it-sicherheit/6504-gestohlene-itunes-kontendaten-in -china-verkauft.html

was former than 2011/01/09.

But no problem was sent zu the users to change their password and if no answer to lock the account.

That `s a scandal!

If you make no better security for the accounts i quit and go to more public view for that common problem!

I think my foreign user knows now my name, my adress and my bank-connection with some signs of my bank account nrs.

That is enoungh to change all my identity for a secure future!

That is crazy!

And you (Apple) did not think it is adequate to inform me about stolen accounts to make me change the password or lock my account failing my answer!

Got hit this morning too. Almost $70 worth of gift cards credit gone in two transactions. All in stupid games and in-app-purchases.

What I still don't get, after spending most of this morning reading online how this happens once and again to people all over the world, is why if Apple detects that "your Apple ID was just used to make a purchase in 帝國 Online from the App Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID", it still lets this transactions go through! It's beyond me! To me, this sounds as if they are saying "Oh yea, I saw somebody with a mask on his head leaving your house in the middle of the night with your TV and some other things, but I didn't do anything because I thought it might've been you... robbing yourself" ... IDIOTS!!!!!

I don't get it. Apple should do something about it. Whoever stoled my credit also deleted my CC info from my account. I don't understand why. Do they have those details now? Should I worry about this and cancel my CC before it gets charged? I read previous posts where people had their gift card credit stolen and CC info erased. Can anyone tell me if this is a real issue I should worry about?

Any info will be much apreciated.

And I doubt anyone at Apple ever bothers reading this posts, but in case it ever happens, a message for you: YOU ARE A BUNCH OF IDIOTS!

UPDATE: Heard back from Apple this morning and by lunch time my money was back in my account. The response time wasn't soo bad after all. But I still have some issues with the change of password that haven't been solved, since now evething syncs over the air, my iPhone refuses to get emails although I have re-set iCloud with the new password everywere.

What I mentioned above plus all the stress and frustration and time wasted emailing Apple and changing things everywhere/ has been such a big inconvenience, that could've been avoided by double checking with the user wether the buy was legit or not BEFORE processing it instead of the other way round as they do.

I had the same trouble. My account was hacked and somebody used my account to make him/herself a master in a game called Imobster. My account was charged for 750 euro... Of course I tried everything.... My bank (rabobank triple a... , click and buy.... The last one is really horrible... It took me half a day to get a contact to get somebody to actually look into my problem and tell me I had to contact I tunes... First of all... revoke any possibility to direct billing.. This is dangerous... It took me a week to straighten out everything.. My biggest help..

Derrick (Charlotte, NC), iTunes Store/ Mac App Store Customer Support. Finally sombody who understood that I would not pay 750 euro to get more points in a game that I don't know in the middle of the night form an unauthorised computer.....

HE actually made my day.... So biggest advice, mail itunes and just explain eveything. IN the meanwhile revoke the autorised payment possibility.......

I am not sure if anyone still reading this post...

Three days ago (12/13/2011), someone hacked into my abandoned Apple ID and download an iPhone game called "Galaxy Empire", then this person made 5 in-app purchases called Dark Matters. Of couse Apple sent me two emails to notified me that this Apple ID was made an in-app purchase on a device not authorized by the ID! THANKS APPLE for letting me know that you just let a scambag robbed my account! I mean what's the meaning to have user authorizing ONLY 5 devices on one Apple ID if some hacker can just use unauthorized device to make purchases anyway?

The not-so-bad news is, only the first in-app purchase went through my PayPal that links to my debet/checking, still charged me $10.66, the rest of the in-app purchases is still in RED because the message underneath said iTunes cannot authorized the credit card that has been use for this order. I guess the a**hole used my debet card (not the checking) from PayPal. Since I haven't been use the debet card on PayPal, the billing address was outdated (it showed on the iTunes Receipt I received in my email).

Since 12/14/2011, I have been change every security informations on both my Apple IDs and PayPal, I also deleted Payment Type from my iTunes and now this ID is not linked to any payment account. I also dispute the transaction and notified PayPal the unauthorized payment. PayPal is invistigating. I also notified the app developer Tap4Fun, wrote them a long email explained my situation, but 2 days passed I am still not hearing anything from them. I also just wrote to iTunes Support "Express Line", and hope they can be aware Galaxy Empire is now hackers new favorite game to rob iTunes users.

I really do hope I can get my money back, either from PayPal or Apple.

I have just experienced the same thing. I received an email from apple that an app has been bought with an unauthorized account ( how the **** is this even possible???? ). This person bought the empire galaxy app and some other in-app stuff. It totaled around 160 euros. Unfortunatly i don't use gift cards so this has been automaticcaly transferred to my clickandbuy account.I changed all my passwords and mailed Apple and Clickandbuy. I hope they will revert this because this seems to me like a big security flaw. Why authorize computers when people can buy stuff from anywhere in the world with my account.

I have not got a response from both parties yet.

I had exactly the same issue. I contacted Apple as well. Although the hackers used my store credit (which i was saving for a kick-*** mix for New Years), i generally go through PayPal. after reading some of the other posts i went to my PayPal account and deauthorized automatic payments from Itunes just in case.

I'd love to hear back from others if they got their account funds reinstated and what had to be done to get that accomplished.

Yesterday I received an email from the support team that it will be investigated and that a refund will be offered for the purchases that have been made, even though it is in conflict with their Terms and Agreements which state that all sales are final.

The amount of 180 euros has just been removed from my bankaccount and clickandbuy is also inspecting my account for security. So I hope the refund will arrive soon with the expensive holidays closing in.

Thanks apple for the quick response and please review the purchases that can be made from an unauthorized account. This should not be possible.

I've also got hit by this. Someone used my account around 1 am on Wednesday to purchase Order & Chaos and Texas Poker along with some in-game purchases. There were two orders, one for $12 and one for $37. Luckily, only the first went through and the second wasn't authorized. I'm sure the thieves would've drained my bank account if that hadn't have happened. But now my iTunes account has a negative balance and I can't find a way to remove my PayPal information.

I just don't know what could've happened. I haven't ever used or purchased gift certificates, don't bother with any spam, don't have a PSN account, and my iTunes accound is tied to an e-mail address I rarely use for anything. It seems to be a security hole on Apple's side. The fact that someone can make purchases with an unauthorized device is absolutely ridiculous.

Nothing mysterious about this problem. On the other posts on Apple Support, someone has posted the fact behind all these unauthorized iTunes Store purchases. The original link can't be open (Bad Request if you click), so here's the same article but posted on another website.

There's defintely a problem with security on Apple's side, but sinse Apple refuse to admit this widespreaded problem, or make it public, the only thing we can do is to delete any payment method that associted with our Apple IDs.

***You CAN remove PayPal from iTunes payment. Go to your iTunes Account page, on the payment type, click Edit >. See the buttons on the top has been selected "PayPal"? If you don't see a payment type button that says "None" (as most people in this situation don't either) click on Visa or Master Card button instead, then try to delete your billing address. You may have to remove your address a few times (iTunes will keep your address, though, no matter what), but each time after you removed the address, go click on PayPal and see if it has been ask you to validate your PayPal account instead. You may even have to restart you computer a couple of times to finally get the PayPal payment type removed.***

Just got bit this morning. Got the e-mail: Your Apple ID XXXXXXXX, was just used to purchase HistoryCalculator from the App Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID.

Already changed my iTunes password, and sent an e-mail off to Apple. Fortunately it was only 10.00 from a gift card and my CC's or Paypal aren't associated, but it still *****.

And from reading these posts and how common this appears to be, it only fuels the Apple HATE that already burns within...

My wife alerted me to about $100 worth of charges from itunes to our credit card in the past two weeks. I normally might buy maybe one or two apps a month. Imagine my confusion when I saw dozens of "in app" purchases for apps that I do not have, and have never even heard of! So I emailed Apple support, and get this: Apple support says they will refund my money under a "one time exception for accidental purchase" What?!? They won't even allow the possibility that they have a security problem! Someone at Apple should handle this obvious problem in a professional way, and provide good customer care, before the s**t hits the fan in the media. Or perhaps Apple is getting too big to care. I like that. "Too big to care".

What I am finding frustrating about this situation is that there is obviously a problem (look at all the emails), but there doesn't appear to be any efforts to fix the problem. My daughter received several itunes gift cards for Christmas. I am reluctant to let her use them because the last time we used a gift card (this past fall), someome was able to make unauthorized purchases of some poker app that depleted the gift card. I don't know what to do to protect the card so that doesn't happen again. And, of course, there is no actual person to talk with. The only communication possible is via email. Very frustrating.

Jan 6, 2012 8:42 PM in response to Elegraphy

I had almost AU$200 stolen from my credit card which was linked to my bank account. After a week of no response from Apple and being transferred from call centre to call centre across the world, I had an idea.

I contacted Apple through their 24 hour chat for MobileMe and begged for help. It worked!

iTunes refunded my credit card and I will never be using my credit card on iTunes again. My advice to all is to delete your credit card details and use gift cards.

Got receipt for an unauthorized purchase, please help!
