Q: Got receipt for an unauthorized purchase, please help!

Let's be clear, the only iDevice we own is a single iPHone 3GS:

Last night I received an invoice stating I downloaded a free App called Texas Poker from KAMAGAMES LTD. The app, which I have never downloaded (it isn't in my iTunes nor on my phone), has made two in-app purchases:

Texas Poker, 500k chips, Seller: KAMAGAMES LTD                                9.99

Texas Poker, 500k chips, Seller: KAMAGAMES LTD                                9.99

After taxes, this total invoice comes out to 22.76$, which is the total amount I had left in my account from a gift card I had redeemed a couple of months earlier.

I have never downloaded such an app, therefore these in-app purchases are impossible for me to have made. I reported this by e-mail to iTunes support but it's the weekend and I really want this settled ASAP.

Thank god I did not have a credit card linked to my account.

What can I do from this point on?

All of this follows my installing of an app called Paperboy:Special Delivery, which is free and does not allow for in-app purchases.

I do not gamble and NEVER play poker.

How can I get my money back from this illegal, unauthorized purchase?

Exactly the same issue here! Unauthorized purchases for Texas Poker chips on 27th. I had recently topped up with a $30 gift card, now credit is down to $0.83! Obvisouly something big wrong with Apple's security. Seems way too suspect to have so many similar incidents all because we have been careless with our own account security. I'm demanding my credit back from Apple.

I just put in a gift card on Tuesday for $15, and the money was gone by Thursday!  Taken by Texas Poker/ KAMAGAMES LTD, same as everyone else.

Scary to think that someone was monitoring my account, constantly looking for a positive balance.  Or maybe they even have some automatic software which can notify them when certain account have posted store credit.

Seems too much of a coincidence that they are all using the same app to buy chips.  Shouldn't the app be investigated or banned?

Also, I might add that I'm pretty savvy about online security, and I don't think my account was phished.

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago. I lost about $32 of a gift card balance through Kingdom Conquest (an app I've never downloaded). I'm fairly certain I wasn't phished, my first thought was my information was gotten through the recent PSN breach as the passwords were the same for both accounts of mine.

Now I'm not so sure since it seems so common. Apple did credit me back for the cost although it took a few days and they talked about account security, keeping my password safe, and I received email about in-app purchasing. It felt more like they were taking it as a mistake on my end then some sort of breach had taken place.

Since this took place, I've changed all my passwords to be safe. I also used up the balance I had and put another $15 gift card on my account. No problems as of yet. I'd really like to know why this is so common.

I noticed that someone earlier had received an update notice and after that his account was hacked.  When i get an email that has a link to any account I might have, I never click on the link to that account because of phishing.  The link might look legitimate and the web site might seem equally legitimate but successful thieves are clever and can make you think that you are at the itunes login and right after you login they forward you to the real site but they now have your user id and password.  At which point it suddenly ***** to be you.  ALWAYS open a new browser window and go to the site and login that way, NOT through the email link.  I don't really think itunes has been hacked.

Another possibility is that since your email is your login which ends in .mac or .me the bad guys can assume that you might have an itunes account.  If you use your email at a "questionable" site and the SAME password as itunes your a pretty good target.

My credit card info appears to have been stolen fron Sony and used to purchase $200 of makeup.  My wife had 2 itunes charges on her credit card last month and she doesn't even have an itunes account.  I feel for you guys.

You don't have to have a .mac or .me account associated with iTunes, saying that's how someone may have guessed doesn't really work.

Actually it's more if you DO have a .mac/.me then you most likely Do have an itunes account.  I still think phishing is the most likely culprit.  I see at least 3 every week in my email.

I wonder if its we purchase certain app and that app company takes our account information and sell it to another company and use that information to take our money by unauthorized purchases?

I had this happen to me awhile back.  Someone hacked into my account and downloaded some music.  Because it went through Paypal I immediately filed a dispute with Paypal, as well as filing a dispute with my bank.  I also changed my iTunes password.  It took awhile, but the charges were reversed and I got my money back.

Shouldn't these KAMAGAMES people get shut-down by Apple or something for being one of the biggest culprits of this scam? They seem to be the only people who'd benefit from this kind of fraud.

Hi , I too have been scammed - 2 receipts for 11.99 + 2 x -0.59 which has emptied my account. I have contacted Apple but they seem to be a bit slow in resolving considering the issue is so widespread. Has anyone got their money refunded by Apple ?

I was issued a refund within 12 hours last month. Great service, but no idea HOW my account was compromised in the first place...
