web sharing not working on OS X 10.6.7

Hi

Really hope someone can help.

I have a problem with my web sharing - it's turned on and seems to be working correctly , I have the green light and 'web sharing is on' message. But when I visit http://{MY IP} I get the following error:

Safari can’t open the page “http://[myIP]/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.

(NB I get the same problem if I try it with '/username')

My mac is new and im not sure if web sharing ever worked - I migrated software and settings over from a HD when i first got it. I know for sure it's not working properly as I have another Imac (earlier osx) and websharing works as expected on that machine.

I've tried a few fixes on the web with NO LUCK I tried these fixes -

http://support.apple.com/kb/TA2503

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1234921?threadID=1234921

Now apache seems to be working fine - I can go into the terminal and try all the apachectl commands, such as graceful, restart configtest (returns syntax ok) and they all work ok.

Although when I try the status, fullstatus commands I get the following error:

Go to http://localhost:80/server-status in the web browser of your choice.

Note that mod_status must be enabled for this to work.

Now when I goto the browser and try http://{MY IP} the console informs me of a crash and generates a crash report on the /librbary/logs/diagnosticsreport/ folder

I have attached the FIRST FEW LINES ONLY of the print out below.

Okay - hope someone can guide me .

Cheers Chate

Is your internet access provider granting you a static IP?

Are you using DynDNS?

Do you have port mapping setup on a router if you have a router?

Unless you have a static IP, your IP address will change almost every time you connect to the internet.

Unless you have a static IP, DynDNS probably is the best way to have a unique address that is always valid on the internet.

If you have a router or WiFi access point (a wireless router, airport base station, Time Capsule etc...), the IP address the internet provider gives you to access the internet is not a valid one for your website until you setup port mapping on the router to allow incoming requests on port 80. There may be other ports depending on the router in question.
