On a new computer, I kept getting popups for various applications wanting to access the keychain ("...wants to use the "login" keychain").  It was driving me crazy but I finally figured it out:

Run the "Keychain Access" program and right-click on the login keychain and select "Change Settings for Keychain "login"...".  In my case, I found that the keychain was set to automatically lock after 5 minutes of inactivity or anytime the computer went to sleep.  (When did this become the default for new machines?)  I unchecked those boxes and all was fine.  After one more pop-up, I have never been asked to authenticate the keychain again.

Hi. I had same problem. This helped me. Don't forget to restart at the end. You will be prompted for login once more when you log back in but as long as you check the box 'save in my key chain" you should be ok

    Hope it helps

open keychain access and make sure the login keychain is unlocked (requires admin password). then right click or control click on the login keychain to get to settings and uncheck the boxes for logout after inactivity and for logout when going to sleep.
