when i setup my email account to my ipad2 everytime it popsup a message saying my username or password is wrong for imap.gmail.com
can someone help me. i dont know how to get it right. coz the username and password is correct. i double checked it in my pc
Are you accessing your Gmail account as an IMAP account with an email client on your PC such as with Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail?
no. but in my gmail has enabled imap access. disabling that will work ?
imap is good, ipad can imap with no problems. but be careful when you enter username and password with ipad. Auto Correct maybe change some Characters like upper Case/lower Case. thats important you use all characters correctly.

Using the Gmail account preset when creating the account creates the account as an IMAP account. Are you using the Gmail account preset to create the account?
I have enabled pop access as well. i checked twice with my username and password.

try clearing your captcha. I had the same problem and went to https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
I was going crazy with this same problem.. nothing seemed to work. Then I tried putting the complete email address in the username field when the account is being created... like this:
Username was xxxxx
username now is xxxxx@domainname.com
This change did the trick for me

I am having the exact same problem with my Macbook Pro, all of a sudden the password started rejecting and I cannot use that gmail account. This appears to be a bug. The quick fix was to set up another gmail account and forward the mail from the old gmail account to the new gmail account that works with the IMAP service. This way the mail from the gmail account with the rejected password will still come through and appear in MAIL.
I turned off 2-step verification in gmail and that worked.
Anyone have luck with this while keeping 2-step verification on. I turned it on for a reason, would prefer not to have to turn it off and application specific passwrods aren't working for me

I had to delete ("revoke") the last application-specific password and get a new one for this iPhone.
