Crash logs now impossible to read

Subject says it all.

Over in Proapps we're often able to help users sort out problems by having them post their crash logs. Thanks to the new forum format, this is now a Herculean task as it looks like a bunch of jumbled text and numbers. The old forum worked perfectly in this context.

Since Apple is basically getting free tech support from it suckers.. (oops, I mean users) it seems the least you could have done is thought this through a bit more.

Old forum = quaint but professional

New Forum = eye appealing to the iwhatever set, slow, clunky, with a Donald Trump amateurish look and feel.

I keep thinking, well, maybe it's going to be ok.. and then a crash log is posted and I realize I'm back in Apple land where style often eclipses substance.

sigh..........

TEST:

Testing pasting in crash logs using syntax highlighting...

Would be good if the lines didn't break and we got a scroll bar as in this reply window... (Maybe suggest that people do this for now when you ask them to post logs. Not perfect, but better than what you've been seeing.)

EDITED FOR BREVITY.

Would be great if "syntax highlighting" would result in a smallish clickable box containing the log (or other pasted-in content), which when clicked would present the entire log (or other content) in one of those floating boxes this layout design seems so fond

Definitely

Come to think of it, would inserting the crash log as an image be better?

You have a big screen now, so you can ask that. 😉

It could be done, but it would take several images stitched together, and there'd be no ability to copy text.

The ability to attach these logs as pdf files would be nice, but I don't know if that's a feature we'd want to see universally available.

Well, it worked like it should, but even on this 'big screen' that image doesn't grow large enough when clicked to read easily, unless I expand the Safari window quite a bit sideways. There's room to do that, but it's not convenient.

The iMac's screen actually is not that much bigger than what I've been using with my G4 (DA) and OS 9. The iMac (27") is running at 2560x1440, the G4's monitor (21.3" LCD) at 1600x1200. Most of the increase in turf is lateral, wide-screen aspect (16:9) vs traditional aspect (4:3). The vertical increase (which is what affects font readability) is only about 20% at those resolutions - this means that 12pt type on the iMac is visually about the same as 10pt on the G4.

Or change the Font Family used?
