After purchasing the new white iPhone 32GB on opening day, I have found, from several calls, that my proximity sensor doesn't work properly. My face continues to hang up, push numbers or other operations that are avialable during a call. Is anyone else having this issue?

Do you have a case on the iPhone? Some cases cause issues with (interfere with) the proximity sensor.
What version of iOS are you running on the device? I believe 4.1 or 4.2 introduced updates to address proximity sensor issues.
Why would having a case fix the proximity issue? Not any case I know of that covers it. I am running 4.3.2 the latest (until the iPhone tracking bug gets fixed in the 4.3.3 update soon to come) I am using the same screen protector that was on my black iPhone, but it never caused an issue on my other one. I tried it without it on... still an issue.
Some cases that are not designed very well, can tend to cover the proximity sensor.
Since you have tried with and without the case and still have the issue, that would indicate a hardware issue with the device.
Ill just deal with it, it isn't a deal breaker, just have to hold the phone further away from my face.
I have the white 16gb and running the 4.3.3 version and have the same issues. It's driving me nuts.
Wow! I just bought my white verizon 16gb iphone yesterday, and I too am having this problem!! Did any of you take it back to the store to get a new one? I am definitely going to do just that tomorrow morning!!

I'm sure you've heard this before, but it actually worked for me. If you have an otterbox case or similar one, take it off and see if the sensor works then. Mine did, I cut the plastic off the case where it goes over the sensor and it works fine now.
I had the same issue, I had a screen protector on my phone that was put on by the Verizon salesperson. It was covering the proximity sensor. I removed it and now it is working great! I think if you cut the part of the protector that is covering the sensor you can still use the screen protector.
Found some Youtube videos regarding the proximity sensor on the white iphone 4.
It seems the best way is to remove the screen protector, without having to reset my iphone.

Had a look around into the screen protectors on the net and found ones selling on Amazon United Kingdom site with the proximity sensor cut-out.The protectors are front and back, not anti-glare but okay quality, 3 sets in a pack so it was very good for the price so tried it and it works fine.. Unfortunately it is not available in the US.
