Please explain the control surface in Color....

I am new with using color, have been using Studio since initial release. When starting up color, it prompts for a control surface, giving me 3 options: Tangent Devices CP100, CP200 or JLCooper - MCS3000/Spectrum

I can also also hit cancel, and I guess it loads without the control surface?

In basic terms, what is the control surface (in Color), and what advantage do I have using it?

I did find this explanation.... still not certain though

MacBook Pro - 2.33 - 17, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Here's the proper way to do this, and it's non-distructive:

Add the clip in FCP, export an XML of the Sequence.

Launch Color and open the original Color project for that Sequence.

File > Reconform, choose the XML file you made in FCP.

In the Render Room, click Add Unrendered, then Start Render.

When the rendering is complete, Send To FCP.

A new Sequence is in your FCP Browser, name it appropriately.
