It's covered by the warranty, make an appointment at your local Apple Store or AASP.
Hello, I have the same issue but my macbook air is not anymore under warranty, is there a way to get it fixed by apple, is that a known issue that give me a right to a free fix?

If you want to take to Apple they will attempt to fix it however you chose to not purchase AppleCare therefore they will charge you for the service.
BTW create your own post.
My late 2010 Macbook Air screen is dead, too. The Mac works fine when hooked up to an external monitor. I sisn't get Apple Care, either. You kind of expect a laptop to work for more than 2 yrs. Generally, extended warranties are a waste of money because problems occur after they have run out.
Off to get an estimate. I see many other people have reported this problem on other message boards.
