You should always have your firewall turned on preferably to block all connections except those commonly used for the internet, email etc ....always turn on your firewall. There are no viruses for MacOSX if you feel you need virus protection you should use ClamXav. It is the preferrd AV program for MacOSX.

Go to system preferences and go to security and go to firewall, and you will see start firewall, you can go to the advanced settings and set it to block all incoming connestions. If I were you I would unistall Kaspersky because it is really a windows Av program as far as I know. When you go to strat your firewall you will be asked to enter your password. Hope this helps.

You should NEVER turn your firewall off. NEVER! I also advise deleting Kapersky as it is pointless on the Mac, and is basically just using up space.

If you chose to turn the firewall off, it can be done in System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Firewall. Just click stop to turn it off (or start to turn it on!).

I am a bit confused by this. If the firewall should be on then why isn't it set to on when you buy the Macbook. I am glad I read this because I went to the firewall setting thinking it must have been set to on by the good folks at Apple, but no it was off.

I would never have thought I needed to protect my computer myself, I assumed these things would have been set for me. I am new to Apple and the the PC's I have had in the past came with preset security measures already in place.

Why does Apple have the firewall off and not instruct you that it needs to be turned on?
