I was wondering how many pixels the iPad 2 has and through this discussions, got my answer, and I just wanted to post a thought...

They are developping so many fun photo apps such as "Hipstamatic" and the quality of the pictures are poor... If Apple can instal a 5mpix camera on an iPhone, why not on iPads!!??? Specially for the price!!! It feels like we are back in the 90' when pixels system started... Apple, we have to move forward, not backward! :s

Have you looked at the specs for the new iPad?

    Meg,

Sad this is coming a year later.. I will certainly not buy a new one now.. And I just think it is not fair to jump that high on the new one. Just wanted to share my thoughts!

You do realize that the new iPad (3rd generation) has a 5 megapixel rear facing camera in it right?  Pretty much the same one that is in the iPhone 4.  So it should take just as good pictures and video as the iPhone 4 does.

The iPad 2 though had under 1 megapixel camera installed for the rear facing camera so that i one of the reasons the camera pictures were so bad.

Funny reading all these comments ... people don't realize that 720p video only translates to 0.9 megapixels, so the iPad 2 camera is good enough for HD video but terrible when it comes to still pictures.

Adding a positive note to the subject of pictures I have enjoyed great pleasure from the Photo Booth and especially Kaleidescope. I have taken outstanding pictures of pets and people have been thrilled with the results. I have also been paid for the photographs I've taken. They are not studio quality but they are very creative and I only paid $300. For my Mini iPad which has gained me thousands of dollars generated from the pictures! I love the no fuss of taking pics with IPad, and the lightweight feature. no, I am not an Apple employee just a very satisfied consumer.
