Ipad 2 camera grainy

I am finding that my ipad 2 camera (both) are taking picture that are grainy and very low quality. I am not sure if this how the ipad camera is supose to be like that but I am reading other reviews that are saying the camera is good quality. Please follow up on this question because I was really looking forward to using the camera but I was disipointed about the quality.

Thanks.

The rear camera on the iPad takes decent video but extremely poor quality stills. This is partly due to the fact that the rear camera is only 0.7 mega pixels unlike the iphone's 5 mega pixel camera. The front facing camera is even worse, it has been rated at a 0.2 mega pixel camera, which is all you need since it's main purpose is FaceTime video chatting. Hope this helps clear (no pun intended) everything up on why the cameras don't seem as crisp as you would think. You may also find that zooming out will help everything seem slightly better.

I too was disappointed with the quality primarily based on all the advertisements i've seen. The video and pictures I've seen look incredible! I didn't get the iPad2 for photos or video per se, but was looking forward to using FaceTime with the same results I've seen in Apple's ads. Not so. Still, it's incredible in so many ways, I'm not even close to sorry I have one AT ALL! You creators are incredible!

I am myself disappointed as well... the iPad 2 came quite after the iPhone 4, and when it was announced that the camera was HD 720p, the logical thought was that it would've been the same camera used in the one in the iPhone 4... but apparently, it was opted a lower version one...

From Apple's iPad page, I wished they announced 720p video recording [and not HD (720p)], because HD is not. Perhaps I'm spoiled by the iPhone 4, but then, what would one expect...? Anyway, photo shooting and video recording is not quite the way to go with an iPad and its size - that's a task for a smaller device, such as a camera or the iPhone 4 itself.

I just came to post about this and found this discussion.

I also find the front facing camera very graining and soft-focus. I haven't had a chance to try it with FaceTime yet, so I don't know how it looks to somebody else while talking to them though.

I guess it's not defective, and just the way it is, right?

The ads are sort of deceptive, aren't they? They show brilliant, sharp FaceTime conversations.

I think the ads are clearly deceptive. The iPad2 camera is absolutely horrible. I've seen people draw pictures better than that. What a waste of money. I just took it to an event yesterday that is one of those once-in-a-lifetime events, and the pictures turned out terrible. That really runied it for me. My fault ofcourse, I should've brought a "real" camera. Can I return it and get my money back you think? I really don't think i'll ever use the camera again with this kind of shameful quality.

Really???? You bought the iPad thinking you had this huge camera? It's never been advertised as a camera. It originally didn't have a camera. And now that it does, the camera was designed to primarily handle facetime calls. If you want to take camera quality pictures, you probably ought to have a camera. I take pictures with my camera. I don't surf the net with it, play games with it, read email on it, read books or magazines on it. That's what I bought an iPad for.

The ads are not deceptive at all... you can get reasonable pictures and video in good light. I do with mine.

No kidding. It's a tablet with a camera, not a camera with a tablet. It's never been advertised as a camera.

As a consumer paying $600+ dollars for a piece of equipment that advertises crisp clear pictures and you get ones that look a bit better than a 5th grader drawing, you should get concerned. Didn't expect a HUGE camera, just something decent. If the device was just for the "facetime" feature, there wouldn't be a need for a camera in the back. And if i was buying a device with a camera, phone, and whatever else it does, i expect it to do the job and not try to justify shortcomings by saing oh i don't play games on my camera. on that notion, you should'nt use your phone for anything else but calls, don't track your contacts there, calendar, or anyting, you need a desktop/laptop for that. There's something wrong with the picture of having to still carry all these devices becasue they all attempt to proivde the features, but none actually do a good job. what's the point of "integrating" all these devices if i still have to carrry a phone with camera, an iPad with Camera, and a stand-alone camera.Yeh, that's a great plan. No thank you. Seriously, over and out.

The front-facing camera images for FaceTime are quite grainy, even in good afternoon brightly-lit indoor conditions.

They don't look anything at all like the images in the ads. For example, here:

http://www.apple.com/ipad/built-in-apps/

Those pictures show people in ordinary, good indoor lighting. I have never seen images from my front facing camera anywhere near approaching that quality. And I have good lighting.

I wasn't expecting much from the rear-camera, because I saw the specs ahead of time. But I was expecting a lot better quality from the front facing camera.

This iPod touch 4th gen is rated for 720p but no where close to as good as the iPhone 4 in quality photos.

I honestly can't believe people do not research the product thoroughly prior to buying it. I knew all of this before I got my iPad 2. It is exactly what I expected. Not concerned with camera quality since I have an iPhone 4. I only wanted the front facing camera for face time and Skype. It is VGA quality so it isn't going to be great. In good lighting it doesn't look too bad. In low light though it will look like crap.

Would I have liked something better like 2MB/5MB camera combo, absolutely. But this will get me by with no problem.

With the camera phones getting pretty good you really don't need to carry around a point and shoot anymore. You probably would be carrying your phone with you anyway too. We have a point and shoot camera. Haven't used it in almost 2 years. Pretty much we just stick with the iPhone cameras. Easy, convenient, and it works. Plus smaller.

I definitely know what you mean though. If you are going to put it in there make it worthy.
