Q: Sony F3 footage... poster, proxy fail
Uploading footage from Sony F3 that has gone through Log and Transfer and has been rewrapped to Sony XDCAM EX 1080p.
File is uploaded.
Log reveals:
DONE - Creating and Analyzing asset for Clip104_02.mov
DONE - Creating Thumbnail for asset: Clip104_02
FAIL - Creating Poster Frame for asset: Clip104_02
(process ends no creation of proxies)
When I look at the thumbnails in the main window the image is there. But there are no proxies or full poster.
But if I right click and ask FCSrv to Regenerate All Proxies (or Analyze) the thumbnail is gone, and the poster and proxies are still not created.
Log reveals:
FAIL - Creating Thumbnail for asset: Clip104_02
Looking deeper I see this in the log:
ERROR: E_INVAL
pm_transcoder process PID 8702 terminated abnormally
1.) I have installed all of the XDCAM drivers.
2.) The movies play fine in QT player on the FCSrv machine.
3.) I can run Compressor on the machine and convert the file using the proxy codec setting without a problem.
I'm not sure what method FCSrv uses for thumbnail and poster generation.

Problem solved.
So it turns out that the first clip that I tried with the Sony F3 happened to be timelapse clip. (The camera has that feature, this particular clip was 1 frame captured every 5 seconds.)
I tried other clips shot 'normally' and they came okay.
For this timelapse clip I tried running it through compressor first (changing frame rates etc) to no avail.
The one thing that worked was to place it in a sequence (letting FCP choose the sequence settings) and then exporting the sequence (self-contained, with sequence settings as is).
