somehow this morning after deleting voice memos from the iTunes library i noticed that all my songs became de-checked. Which means they won't play until i put a check mark in the check mark column. How do I check them all ?

Command-click in one check box will check all other visible check boxes.

You are a godsend! This has fixed my awful issue with iCloud and iTunes Match. It is unchecking my songs and then that is impacting playback. Thank you so much!
