The iPad cannot be synced. The device is not connected.

As titled, the error message I got was "The iPad cannot be synced. The device is not connected." I've tried so many times, after updating iTunes and iPad to the latest version, unchecking apps that I don't want to appear on my iPad, then clicked 'Apply'. It starts backing up, copying and removing app, and all of a sudden, it just disconnect and prompted this message. Is it the cable? iTunes? or app crashes? Tried restarted my mbp, restarted my iPad, none is working.

iPad, iOS 4.3.2

I'm seeing the exact same problem. In my case, I had purchased several things from the iTunes store directly from my iPad (not just apps, but music and movies, so it does take awhile). And, as you said, the sync does this, then, for me, at "step 5 of 6", when it gets to "Finishing Sync", it gives me the "The iPad xxx cannot be synced. The device is not connected'. Then, when I retry, it goes thru the whole process again. Ugh.

I'm not sure how to tell an old iPhone cable from a new iPad cable.... but I had the same problem, transfers or syncs would end (just stop) or yield errors as stated above.

By changing my cable, and connecting it directly to my iMac, the problem went away and I was able to transfer purchases, sync, backup and update to IOS 5.
