iPod won't show up in iTunes

After having scoured Google for days and trying every manner of uninstall/reinstall of everything I can imagine, I am forced to come here and start my own topic.

Windows 7, iTunes 10.2.2.12, iPod classic 80gb

I had no problems previously with iPod connectivity or sync, but a few days ago when I plugged it in to sync, it did not appear in the source list of iTunes. It shows up in Windows Explorer as an iPod and everything, but iTunes won't recognize it.

Apple Mobile Device Support is working properly under Services, but the iPod is displayed under "Portable Devices" in Device Manager as well as AMDS being displayed under USB Controller.

When I try to re-install the drivers, it tells me that the driver I indicated is not compatible with my device and to make sure that it is meant for 32-bit versions of Windows.

I've reset it countless times and put it into disk mode, but nothing seems to work. I'd restore it if I could just get it to show up in iTunes.

Is there anything anybody could do to help?

iPod classic, Windows 7
