Prevent calendar messages?

I left my iPod for several weeks without charging and the date/time defaulted to whatever date in the 1970s. After I reset the date and time to the present day, I had to go through what seems like an eternity of calendar messages about past appointments, some of them from years ago. This has happened to me on several occasions.

Is there no way to abort this process, to "accept" or cancel all, or do I just have to sit there, tapping into oblivion before I can use my device again?
