First of all turn the iPhone off. Then immerse it in uncooked rice in a airtight container for 48-72 hours. Then see if it is working. If not, your liquid sensors would have likely been tripped and you need service.

Thanks Bexie. I turned it off and it's covered in rice now. It doesn't look like the sensors were tripped (also, I dont have the Apple warranty).

However, it was on when I spilled the water on it and I left it on for a few mins. I even tried to make a phone call. Hopefully when I turn it back on in 48-72 hours the speakers will be working again!

You wouldn't be able to tell, as they are inside the phone (and you shouldn't be pulling it apart 😝)

If the phone was still on after the liquid was spilt on it (and working), then it most likely hasn't caused any major damage. I would sugest to do as Bexie said, and put it in rice, or just leave it somewhere for 48-72 hours.

Whatever you do, DO NOT try to turn it back on

Update!

After turning the phone off and placing an airtight container of uncooked rice for 72 hours, my phone is working fine again! So if anyone else ever spills water on their phone:

-Turn it off immediately

-Dry off any water on the outside

-Take the case off and put it in an airtight container of uncooked rice (cover it completely with the rice)

-Leave it there for 48-72 hours before turning it back on again

I also blow dried my phone on low heat before and after putting it on rice. I would recommend trying that too (just do it at a low heat!).

Thanks Taylor and Bexie for your responses!

Just a note, usually 4 - 7 days is much better than 72 hours and the hair dryer, even at low heat is a bad idea anytime.

There are also two moisture sensors that are visible to you, one in the headphone jack the other at the dock connector.

Hi!

I did the same and I had no sound, the water got to the little speaker on top... My friend recommended me to stick the vacuum cleaner to it and it worked immidiately! I switched it off, stick the tube to the speaker for about 10 seconds twice, switch on and all good! What a relief...

spilling water on my phone has been a regular predicament for me. happened to my iphone too recently. turning it off immediately and trying to get as much moisture out of the device is definitely the way to go.

airtight container + uncooked rice + time, usually does the trick.

if uncooked rice is not available, a better aleternative is to use silica gel packs. those are small packets you typically see inside vitamin bottles. they are there to suck out the moisture, that ruins the vitamins. thos things really suck your phone dry 🙂 i put my phone in a jar with 2-3 packs. after a day, im good to go.
