Has anyone tried out the HP f2105 Wide Flat Panel Monitor on a G5 with an ATI Radeon 9600 XT? I just switched from two professional CRT monitors which were starting to die after 6 years of constant use. The image looks very bright and crisp on the HP f2105. My only issue is the banding that appears with color gradations in Photoshop and Illustrator. On CRTs this issue would appear when the color pallet was set to Thousands of colors and disappeared when it was set to Millions. This problem is now present with the HP f2105 set to Millions. Please note that the HP f2105 does not ship with any Mac OS X drivers nor does HP offer it via their Web site. However, Mac OS X does recognize the monitor via the System Profiler as follows:
HP f2105:
Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Supported
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
Rotation: Supported
Display:
Status: No display connected
Any ideas how to remedy this banding problem?

My guess is you're merely running into the color limitations of the display.
Some LCDs are worse than others at that. But for optimal color display, CRTs still outperform LCDs. Also, I think partly because of how the light is emitted from LCDs vs CRTs the 'banding' tends to be more noticeable on LCD displays in large areas of small color differences.
There are 'upcoming' generations of LCD technology that are much better, (and some that will probably be able to get certified for color reproduction accuracy), but they're not available in retail channels that I'm aware of yet.
The problem may also partly be due to the image itself. Perhaps there are simply too few color shades in the gradient? How do gradients from other sources look?
